School for Special Education, San Francisco de Asis, Morazon, El Salvador

St. Asis school was first built by the Catholic church to educate children with physical and mental disabilities.  Over the years the support for the school from the church has dwindled and so now, it is a regional school for handicapped children and part of the public school system.  It enrolls a total of 77 children who suffer with Down's syndrome, autism, deafness, epilepsy, and moderate to severe learning disabilities.  They attend school half a day as the school day is divided in 2 daily sessions. Recently, the kitchen stove was stolen so the children were unable to have a school snack/ lunch.  CliniCASA was contacted and partnered with the school and parents to build a kitchen and small dining room for the students. As of May 2012, the structure is complete.  The community is in process of putting on the final touches of paint and obtaining 3 windows, one door, and laying a tile floor.  They also need dining tables and chairs and to connect the electricity. They will need donations to help them complete this project.
